Notes on Mac OS X 10.4 (PowerPC)
VIVA has once more considerably accelerated Version 5.1 of VivaDesigner for Mac OS X 10.4. In this version we use the functions of the operating system 10.4, which improves working speed considerably. Thus for example the speed of creating the file preview in the "Open" dialog was accelerated 20-fold. For users of VivaDesigner on Mac OS X the Update to 10.4 is well worth while.
Notes on Mac OS X 10.4 (Intel-Mac)
VIVA is the first manufacturer world-wide to offer a layout program for Mac OS X 10.4 on Intel Macs. Please use the "Universal Installer", which will install the native version of VivaDesigner on the appropriate platform.
Notes for Mac OS X 10.3
VIVA stopped further development of the version for Mac OS 10.3 in April 2006 and has withdrawn the version from the market. The current version only runs on 10.4 or newer. The background lies in the fact that the operating system 10.3 still contains elementary errors in functions which VivaDesigner cannot do without. Apart from this, Apple has considerably increased the processing speed (up to a factor of 20) of the operating system 10.4 over version 10.3. We thank all users of the operating system 10.3 for their understanding and recommend updating to 10.4 or newer.
Working on G4 computers
VivaDesigner does still contain some errors, but one specific error only appears on G4 computers: the mode-dependent mouse pointers are not displayed. The program does carry out all commands, but one cannot recognize whether the mouse is placed over a sizing point, a text or an image. We will continue to research this problem. On a 400MHz G4 you can work relatively well with VivaDesigner, providing you use a very modern and fast graphics card and at least 512 MB working memory. Comfortable working with VivaDesigner should however be possible above 800 MHz. Since VivaDesigner on Mac OS X needs up to 250 MB working memory, an appropriate computer should have at least 512 MB. Here the basic rule counts: the better the graphics card and the more memory you have, the faster the program is.
